Giving thanks.

Obviously we don’t celebrate Thanksgiving in Australia, and while I understand that it wouldn’t make sense, I am a little bummed. I’d swap the Queen’s Birthday holiday for Thanksgiving any day. {Or Labour Day, what the hell is that all about?} A whole holiday devoted not to presents and over-spending {or some distant and redundant monarch} but instead one about eating and reflecting on what you are thankful for.

Although in the interest of full disclosure everything I know about Thanksgiving comes from an episode of The Brady Bunch.

Anyway, without getting bogged down in details, let’s think for a moment about what we are all grateful for. Even during the hardest of times there is usually something positive we can hold onto. So as America’s Thanksgiving holiday ticks us over into the Christmas season, I’m asking the question: what are you thankful for?

Here’s my list of what I am thankful for right this minute:

    • four healthy children, who, while they may infuriate me at various times, are still awesome.
    • a husband who is still hot, still makes me laugh, and is still my best friend.
    • living in a country like Australia, for so many reasons. It really is the lucky country.
    • a secure roof over our heads and food in our tummies.
    • our beautiful kitten, who has brought so much happiness to everyone in the house.
    • having family {and friends who are family now} who make me and my family feel so loved, and all the laughs we share.
    • having beautiful in-laws who have adopted me as their own.
    • being healthy, mentally and physically.
    • champagne, vodka, tequila…

And probably lots of little bits and pieces that I’m forgetting, but those are the first things that came to mind and maybe for that reason the most important to me.

So a somewhat belated but heartfelt happy thanksgiving to all my American friends and readers.

And a happy and thankful Saturday to everyone else.

  1. Maybe you should make a traditional(ish if you wanna tweak it up) Thanksgiving dinner sometime for your family & “give thanks” anyway=) I like your list.

    1. We’re actually having a turkey tomorrow, and I’m calling it our Thanksgiving lunch!

  2. NO WAY – we pretty much have the exact same thankful list except inlaws and I only have 3 kids!! x

    1. The newest and best thing being those kittens!
