on having pink hair…

I can be a bit insufferable in that whole liking to prove people wrong thing.

Last week I spent way too long arguing with the girl in the hair supplies shop who would not, for love or money, help me buy the product that would give me pink hair. I begged, pleaded, tried to be charming {which goes against every instinct I have}, but she just kept harping on with the same fucking refrain: it won’t work/it will go purple/it will go orange/no you can’t get pink hair/blah fucking blah…

As soon as her back was turned I grabbed two of the colours she insisted wouldn’t work, would not show up at all in my brown hair with the copper-turned-orange highlights, and headed home. After some drinks and some dinner shenanigans my daughter took the tinting brush in hand and with great excitement proceeded with her first ever go at dying someone else’s hair.

I’m not really that trusting, it was only a temporary colour.

The pink took like a dream, leaving me with dark magenta shades on the brown base and violently bright pink on the copper parts. It covered my greys and left my hair feeling all silky and shampoo commercial shiny. I felt all punk rock for a few days but then the greys started showing through again and I discovered that while I loved the pink it made dressing tricky because most colours clashed, and bold lips seemed a bit too bold for the ‘burbs.

But because I’m too lazy to do another colour so soon and am currently in a hairdresser-less state I still have pink hair.

Plus Mr 7 {a.k.a. “young gamer” as he prefers to be known} loves it and thinks his mum is heaps cool.

  1. I really love it. It suits you. Don’t you just hate it when someone tells you something won’t work, it makes me want to do it even more lol xx

    1. Lol, for sure. I was going to try anyway, I don’t know why she was being so stubborn!

  2. Fuck suburbia – wear the bold lip with it!! 🙂 xo

  3. They were not only 100% wrong but you’re an adult who understands the risks and wants to try it anyway. What kind of customer service is that? Because of this I’m not listening to similar bullshit and I’m going to go for it more 😃 Besides if your tresses came out purple it would look just as rad.

    Pink is fabulous on you!!

    1. Yes! Least helpful customer service in terms of actively trying not to sell something. And you should try it. I used the Manic Panic brand and they have a ton of colours, the darker colours give dark hair nice tones and highlights. The plus for me was that my hair had faded to orange.

      1. So which color are you going for next??

        1. I might let it get back to normal, it’s so multi coloured at the moment!

  5. […] the brief but fun fortnight where {after a few drinks and a couple of tubs of Manic Panic} I had bright pink hair, and after finally growing it out after the I-said-two-cms-she-cut-two-inches fisco of 2015 that saw […]
