I like it so check it out: OCTOBER

Crazy crazy crazy.

October is the month from birthday party heaven {or hell, depending on the day}, with seemingly the whole family having birthdays. {Not really, but there are six birthdays and one wedding anniversary.} So what we really crave during this whirlwind month is some down time, and here are some of the things I’ve enjoyed lately:

READING:
  • Waiting To Be Heard, by Amanda Knox. I’m sure that people living in the U.S. have been bombarded with endless articles and news about the Knox case, but having watched the doco I wanted to know more, and I really loved this biography. So much so that I had to drop everything else I was reading to start this. It gives so much more back story and depth than the doco, which is to be expected. But I would definitely recommend pairing the two.
  • Real Wild Child, by Narelle Gee. Tales from behind the scenes of the iconic and long running Aussie all night music program? Yes please. A must read for every music fan.
  • Plus I’ve done the unthinkable and have another three books on the go: the recently released autobiography of Bruce Springsteen {loving it so far}, The Profiler by Chris Taylor {annoying in that it’s set in Sydney but seems written by an American, with use of words like “mom”, and “condo”}, and Inferno by Dan Brown {you know what to expect with Dan Brown, and even though I’m only about a chapter in it will no doubt hook me when I get back to it}.

WATCHING:
  • Amanda Knox, documentary available on Netflix. Australia saw nowhere near the same level of media saturation regarding the Amanda Knox case so I was able to watch it with fresh eyes, and while the blatant and shocking sexism apparent in the way Knox was treated, not to mention injustice, had me gritting my teeth, it was riveting viewing nonetheless.
  • The Invitation. Oh em gee I was already enjoying this suspenseful thriller before I started thinking that Logan Marshall-Green looks a bit like Evan Dando with a beard. And once I had that thought it was all over and I just pretended I was watching Dando, thinking, who knew he was such a good actor?
  • 8 Mile. I’ve never seen it in full, and when it came on TV recently I really enjoyed it. Maybe because I’ve been listening to Marshall a lot lately. {See below.} Andย watching Brittany Murphy reminded me how much I still can’t fathom that she is no more.
LMG vs Ed. You be the judge.

LISTENING:
  • Kanye, Kendrick, Eminem, and 2Pac. Not my usual bag but in the process of planning my son’s birthday and working on the playlist with my daughter I’ve been immersed in the sounds of hip hop and rap. Plus it bugs him when I pretend to like his music, which is always a bonus point. Although that Tinashe song just won’t leave my head…
  • The Lemonheads. You know that comfort food type of music? I never go long without listening to this band but somehow every time I start another marathon session I am blown away all over again at those honey rich vocals, which are way sweeter than even the best beard. *sigh*
  • Martha Wainwright, another amazing voice. I could listen to Martha all day.

What’s on your check it out list this month?

A.

  1. What a hectic time for you but sounds like fun too.
For the life of me I can’t remember which book it was, but I was reading a story set in the US with American characters but things like sneakers kept being referred to as “trainers” and it was really distracting and annoying. Nobody talks like that here, so I looked up the author and they were British. I hate that they didn’t do their homework.
Joel McHale has a book coming out at the end of this month and I think season 3 of The Fall comes to streaming so I’m looking forward to those as well as the plans I have in the works to celebrate my mom’s birthday and of course Halloween! ๐ŸŽƒ๐Ÿ‘ป
    Happy October!

    1. Halloween is getting bigger here each year, more kids out trick or treating and of course all the merch everywhere.

And it’s 11pm the might before my sons big 21st party at our house and I have only just finished the food prep. But I’m really looking forward to tomorrow night.

Will have to check out Joel McHale. X.
