“It was Christmas Eve babe, in the drunk tank…”

So it’s almost Christmas you guys. There’s that crazed and somewhat frantic feeling in the air as we get ready for the festivities and refuse to believe that we have come to the end of yet another year.

Christmas is official at our place when I start playing my favourite Christmas song:

{Fairytale of New York, by Tex Perkins and Clare Bowditch. Not the original by The Pogues, it has to be this version.}

We’re hosting Christmas at our place this year, which means that the morning will kick off with three things: a flouncy apron, music, and a mimosa {which will be replaced by straight champagne as the day goes on}.

Our neighbours will drop by in the morning for our traditional Dalmatian breakfast spread, consisting of coffee and panettone, prosciutto, cheeses, fruit, and antipasto. It’s a noisy affair because, apparently, when Croatian and Lebanese folks get together we shout a lot.

Food wise there will be way too much. Meat, seafood, vegetables, salads, sweets, fruit. Carbs and alcohol tend to rule the day.

I’ll spend the last week of the year devouring all the end of year wrap ups I love so much, as I look back at the year that was. And wasn’t it a bit of an insane year? There was the loss of some musical giants {David Bowie and Prince in particular}, the circus that was Trump winning the U.S election, and what just seemed like a neverending parade of WTF moments. On a personal note it was a mixed bag, with the sale of our cafe and the loss of my grandmother being the two biggest things I had to contend with. Oh, and my oldest child moved out last month.

Most years I look back grateful that we have come through healthy and all in one piece, and there haven’t been too many years that I look back at as having been really shithouse. Last year was absolutely huge and pretty much everything was positive, so it makes sense that this year was a bit less intense. My kids are all happy and doing well and I still think my husband is the ants pants so that makes me a happy camper too.

Finally, a big Merry Christmas to you and yours, and I hope you have a wonderful day wherever you are. Eat, drink, get all merry and shit, and I’ll see you all in the new year. Thank you all my blogging friends for reading, commenting, and giving me lots of laughs. You guys are the best.
